Day of period concerts and dance performance
21 June 2019
Day of period concerts and dance performance
We will gather for a church service held at Toomemägi Park at noon on 21 June just like the very first time 150 years ago.
The afternoon and evening of the day are filled with varied “time-travel” concerts. You can travel 3 x 50 years covering the entire period of the song festival through music, text, jokes, recollections, and saying things anew and in a different way. The “1869”period concert begins at 16 in the yard of the Tartu Song Festival Museum, the“1919” period concert at 18 at the Tartu Raadi airplane hangar and the “1969” period concert at 20 at the Tartu University stadium.
Admission to all three period concerts is free of charge.
We welcome sunset in Kassitoome Valley, where the folk dance performance „Loodud jääma“ (“Here to Stay”) will begin at 22.
Admission by ticket only. For tickets to the performance please follow this link this link.
We gather at Raadi cemetery to reflect a little before the long June day ends. We have travelled through the eras of the song festival and it is time to bow down to what has been and what is – for the creators and keepers of the song festival and to all of those that have created and kept us ourselves. Maarja Nuut performs at the ceremony beginning at 23.
Triin Käpp, reverend of Tartu St John`s-University Church will say the opening words of this very special gathering in this very special place.
Free access.
